This 1995 BMW E36 came to us as a stock car with aftermarket wheels and a blown stock S50 engine. This is one of our earlier S54 conversions and the goal was to maintain factory appearance as close as possible – while adding over 100 rear wheel horses. This 1995 BMW E36 came to us as a stock car with aftermarket wheels and a blown stock S50 engine. This is one of our earlier S54 conversions and the goal was to maintain factory appearance as close as possible – while adding over 100 rear wheel horses.

This E36 M3 arrived to us with 60k miles and in excellent shape, but with a blown 3L US Engine – Perfect platform for a S54 transplant. Once the Tein coilover suspension is installed, the brakes are upgraded to stock-fitment Performance Friction brake pads on OE rotors. The BimmerWorld S54 Conversion Exhaust Adaptor Pipe mates the S54 directly into the back section of an AA Track Pipe. An E46 M3 fuel pressure regulator was also installed to increase fuel pressure, required for the S54.

Once the S54 was installed, a 42mm PWR Radiator was fitted along with BimmerWorld Silicone Radiator hoses(E36 fitment) and an aFe E46 M3 air intake for our cooling needs. The E36 Euro cooling system was also installed as a matter of convenience and because it bleeds air better. The OBD-II port nestled into the left of the battery jump post allows us to read the car like an E46 M3 to make diagnostics and repairs incredibly easy, although the car will not pass plug-in emissions.

The stock E36 M3 instrument cluster was retained. Note that all the gauges work(the fuel is empty…) except for the MPG and no warning lights! A switch had to be installed to turn on the AC compressor which is no longer controlled automatically by the (now S54) ECU – The one glitchy part of the install. There is a more elegant solution, but we didn’t explore very hard to resolve it. Now, the S54 E36 M3 engine swap car is ready to hitch a ride back to Texas.
